Entry requirements

A valid passport or certificate of identification is required for everyone wishing to enter Australia. Except for holders of Australian and New Zealand passports, everyone requires a Visa. For more information, see www.immi.gov.au

Practicalities

Electricity is 220-240 volt using 3 flat pin plugs. Most hotels also have 110 volt outlets for shavers. You will need a converter and a travel plug adaptor for appliances.

Australia uses the metric system for distances, temperature and weights. (kilometres/metres, Celsius, and grams/kilograms)

Tipping is not mandatory in Australia - but it is becoming more common to add a tip for good service.

Touring around

Both major domestic airlines travel through Adelaide. Qantas ( www.qantas.com.au ) and Virgin Blue ( www.virginblue.com.au ) offer airpasses for international visitors, as well as discount fares for internet air travel bookings. Adelaide airport is just 7km from the city.

Rail connects the capital cities and major centres. Try www.gsr.com.au
